An actively engaged citizenry is important to addressing the existing and future challenges facing our communities.
Effective and enduring civic engagement requires the development and adoption of a community-wide, problem-solving skill set which will be offered to citizens and organizations in Eau Claire County.
Summary of Accomplishments
Building Community Capacity for Collaboration and Problem-Solving:
- Secured University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute contract to provide a series of civic engagement training sessions – (October, 2008-October, 2009)
- Formed a civic engagement coaches Core Group
- Supported community initiatives work teams – both on-going and task-specific:
- Eau Claire City Parks Task Force
- Treatment not Incarceration Task Force
- Veterans Group
- Jobs Work Group
- Community Facilities Task Force
- Community Cultural Strategic Plan Initiative
- Educational Institutions Collaboration

- Secure Funding for future Civic Engagement coaches training
- Identify a “home” to support on-going implementation of the Civic Engagement model for citizen engagement and community-level problem solving
- Development of a Tool-Kit for use by future organizations or citizen groups engaged in problem solving and/or achievement of community initiatives.
